There’s two things that inspired this post. Here’s the short of it:
- Second Hand Cigarette Smoke
- “Smoke Screen” Nail Polish Lacquer
Now, here’s the long of it:
1. Second Hand Cigarette Smoke.
As a blog post further down mentions, I went to Atlantic City this past weekend with some friends - one couple who smokes cigarettes and the majority that does not (which includes myself as someone who has never smoked a cigarette in all the years I’ve been alive). I’m sure you can see where this post is headed. So, I’m not getting into those details.
However, what I will get into is the fact that I am now, two days later still suffering from the effects of second hand cigarette smoke. Honestly, that is the variable that I can pinpoint. That, to me, is a pretty serious thing, given the fact that me, as a non-smoker got so affected by approx. 16 hours of exposure. So, here are the common sense facts that can be easily forgotten:
- When you breathe secondhand smoke, it is like you are smoking.
- When you are around a person who is smoking, you inhale the same dangerous chemicals as he or she does.
- Breathing secondhand smoke can make you sick. (<—-DING DING DING!)
- Breathing secondhand smoke makes the platelets in your blood behave like those of a regular smoker. Even a short time in a smoky room causes your blood platelets to stick together. (Oh, wonderful. Thanks, ‘friends’!)

On Sunday afternoon, when I walked out of the doors to the rooftop parking lot of the Casino (yes, it was that packed this weekend that we had to park on the roof), it was the most glorious moment! Why? Because I never appreciated a breathe of fresh air so much, like I did when the first gust of wind whipped me in the face (we were pretty high up; it was a serious gust)!
The Point: I’m cool if you’re a smoker, but after this weekend and the fact that I am sick two days later from second hand cigarette smoking shenanigans, I probably won’t come as close to you as you’d like me to if you’re puffing on one! I’m not a smoker and I plan to stay that way, so if inhaling your second hand smoke makes me a smoker, I won’t be close by!
2. “Smoke Screen” Nail Lacquer from Ulta
What a great lead in, right?! Serious to stylish, using smoke as the inspiration - I think you may be diggin’ it!
So, I bought a new nail lacquer recently from Ulta…goes by the name of “Smoke Screen”! Couldn’t believe the irony of it all when I reached for this particular color to do my nails yesterday, as I was hacking up a lung from my second hand smoke sickness (Thanks, “friends” <3!). Could have used a screen to keep out the smoke (= my own definition of a “Smoke Screen”) on Saturday night, I can tell you that much! Oh, well. (Here’s the real definition if you’re wondering.)
Any who, this color is pretty incredible. Think gray, with the tiniest hint of lavender. When it comes to the intangible factor involved, I’d say it’s got an element of mystery! Goes with pretty much any outfit, in my opinion, so it’s a rock it everyday, all day kind of color - got to love that! Check it out below:
(yes, these are my ridiculously crimson red sheets!)

Serious, yet Stylish… This could be that start of a new post series. In fact, I’m pretty sure there will be more posts like this in the future - I like this angle. Stay tuned (#SeriousYetStylish)!
